Gruner See

Virtual Field Trip 4.02 Biology

Gruner See

  • Also known as The Green Lake is located in Styria, Austria.
  • This body of water is located between mountains and forests.
  • Gruner See is a very interesting lake because during the winter it is a park with the water height only being 1-2 meters deep, than once it is spring and the ice from the mountain begin to melt the water raises to a incredible height of a maximum of 12 meters.
  • The effects of sunlight on this body of water and the aquatic life is only that it causes the water level to rise and deplete due to mountain run off and than evaporation.
  • This is a freshwater lake since the water is the melted snow from the mountains. In this water there are some snails, salmon, insect larvae, grass, trees, and even a bench and a bridge.
  • Since the water of the Green Lake does rise during spring, that is when there are going to be more aquatic life. During winter the water is lower and much colder making it harder to host the aquatic life.
Climate change has a large effect on this body of water because the warmer the spring season becomes, the more ice from the mountains will melt creating a higher rise in the water level. If the water level becomes higher than it will take that much longer to go back down which could lead later never depleting fully.
